Dr. Schaefer was born and
raised in the mountains of
Northern Georgia. Coming from a military family, he enlisted in the
Army right
out of high school as an Infantryman assigned to Special Operations
Command in
which he did long range surveillance. Upon completion of his initial
enlistment, he pursued his undergraduate studies in Biology at Young
Harris
College and the University of Georgia. After college, he attended
dental school
at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. From there he
joined the
Army for a second time as an Army Dental Corps Officer completing a
one-year
general dentistry residency program at Fort Carson, Colorado.
Dr. Schaefer was selected by the
Army for further training in the specialty of
orthodontics at the Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency Program at
Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He then
returned to Fort Carson where he served as Chief of
Orthodontics for the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency
program. As an Army orthodontist, Dr. Schaefer has had the opportunity
to treat some on the most difficult surgical and non-surgical
orthodontic cases present. Dr. Schaefer received his board
certification in orthodontics
in April of 2005 and is a Diplomate of the American Board of
Orthodontics.
Dr.
Schaefer
is a
resident of Divide, Colorado and was a former member and volunteer of
the Teller County Search and Rescue group.
